If you do nothing else in your search for a Professional coach, I urge you to use this check list in interviewing your coaches!!! What certifications do they hold? What coach specific training do they have? How many clients do they have and how long have they been coaching? Unfortunately it’s easy to add “coach” to one’s job description, without specific training in the ethical standards and competencies required by the International Coach Federation. After advanced certification in Total Quality Management (remember that!) and Leadership training for the U.S. Army, I became a Leadership Development Specialist in 2001 for USDA. I was trained as a coach and coached both individuals and teams, with remarkable success. I was so impressed with the results of coaching, still in its infancy then, that I started A New Leaf Coaching in 2005 and have been a Professional Coach ever since. Since 2014 I have also trained other coaches in the professional competencies and ethics required of certified coaches. In 2016 I added mentoring of other coaches to my list of services. While I am a “coaches’ coach”, my primary work is supporting federal executives. My SES and GS clients tell me that my 27 years as a federal employee gives us a jump start in navigating their unique challenges.
